If you are a paddler or enjoy sailing, this course is vital for learning some key safety concepts. In this course instructors will teach you how to assist others and plan trips with safety in the forefront of your mind. This course is between eight and twelve hours long and will be a valid certificate for three years.
Water Safety Instructor Course (WSI)
The Bainbridge Island Aquatic Center Water Safety Instructor Trainer, will provide participants with information and skills through a blended learning style course. The goal of the American Red Cross WSI program is to teach people to be safe in and around water, while teaching individuals of various swimming abilities. Participants will gain the skills to teach parent and child courses, preschool aquatics, Learn-to-Swim and adult swim courses in addition to safety courses. Our course is a blended learning course which will include online learning, in-person skills, lecture and activities which enable the entire course material to be delivered to each student in multiple ways and is easier for the busy learner!
Once Certified instructors are eligible to teach the following courses:
- Water Safety Today
- Basic Water Rescue
- Personal Water Safety
- Safety Training for Swim Coaches
- Water Safety Instructor candidates must be 16 years old on or before the last day of the course.
- Candidates must be able to swim at a Learn-to-Swim level 4 skill level.
